For over 45 years, Ford has led the commercial van segment. In the U.S., we’ve known workhorses like the Econoline; globally, the Transit badge has meant serious business. About a decade ago, Ford made a bold move by bringing the Transit — a global favorite — to the U.S. market, replacing the long-serving Econoline. Since then, the Transit has become the backbone of American fleets. Fast forward to today, and Ford has again made a bold move by releasing the all-electric 2024 Ford eTransit MR BEV: a no-nonsense workhorse built for businesses that want capability without compromise.

Purpose-Built Electric Power

The eTransit MR BEV makes 266 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque from its electric motor, fed by an 89 kWh battery pack. It offers a 4,000 lb payload capacity and 9,500 lb GVWR, making it every bit as capable as its gas sibling. It’s not about flash — it’s about working smarter.

That said, range is the only real drawback. With 159 miles of range, it’s not ideal for long-haul operations. But for urban-based tradesmen — electricians, HVAC techs, delivery drivers — it’s a solid solution, especially if you can charge overnight at your business or depot.

More Configurations, More Options

Ford gets that one size doesn’t fit all. That’s why the eTransit comes in more configurations than any other EV van on the market:

Two lengths

Three roof heights (Low, Medium, and High — up to 9’2”)

Three body styles

Upfit-ready packages for specialized trades

So whether you’re a general contractor, a mobile repair business, or an independent fleet operator, there’s an eTransit spec that’ll work for you right out of the gate.

Driving Experience That Makes a Difference

From behind the wheel, the eTransit MR BEV offers something gas vans simply can’t: silence, smoothness, and lack of fatigue.

A friend of mine manages a mixed fleet of gas and EV Transits, and he told me something that stuck: “The drivers always fight over the EVs. They’re just less tired at the end of the day.” No engine noise, no vibrations, no fumes — just a quieter, more comfortable experience, especially in stop-and-go city driving.

Inside the Van

With up to 536.4 cubic feet of cargo space, the eTransit MR BEV is still a van first — and a smart one at that. Inside, you get:

12" touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and FordPass Connect

Ford Pro™ Fleet Management tools

Room for tools, racks, shelves, and more

The cabin layout is practical, with a telescoping steering wheel, smart storage, and a layout built around the workday.

Summary: It Works

The 2024 Ford eTransit MR BEV won’t win over long-haul logistics operations — and it’s not trying to. But if you’re running short routes, servicing local clients, or managing a trades fleet in a metro area, it makes a lot of sense.

It’s built tough, configurable for just about any trade, and it delivers real comfort and quiet that drivers appreciate more than they expected.

Ford says 99% of Transits built in the last 10 years are still on the road — and with the eTransit, that longevity now includes electric.

Rating: 8/10 Great for local business fleets. We just wish it had a little more range.
