Saleen Unveils 30-Year Commemorative Mustang at Mustang Roundup in Seattle

In 1987, Steve Saleen and team entered the SCCA/Escort Endurance Championship with three of Saleen’s early generation Mustangs and won the grueling “24 Hours of Mosport.” Propelling Saleen Automotive into a name synonymous with High-Performance Mustangs. The ‘87 team included Saleen, and teammates George Follmer, Rick Titus, Desiré Wilson and Lisa Caceres.  Now 30 years later; the team is reunited in Seattle, WA to unveil Saleen’s Commemorative Mustang at the “2017 Mustang Roundup.”

“Saleen Automotive, Inc., has always been warmly welcomed by the members of Mustangs Northwest at their annual Roundups, so, it was natural for us to participant in this year's 2017 Event.” Stated CEO and Founder Steve Saleen.

A move that seems to have been a wise one. As Mustang enthusiasts from around the Pacific Northwest poured over the Commemorative Saleen Mustangs. Not without merit though, the Commemorative GT’s feature two trim options; a “street version” and a “track version,” each producing a beastly 730 hp and 750 hp respectively through the use of a 3.2 liter supercharger. Other performance upgrades include a custom exhaust system, Racecraft suspension, a competition shifter, and of course, General Tire’s new G-MAX RS performance tires (paying homage to the ’87 Championship Mustang that ran General Tires). “(The cars have) basically the same equipment, but more horsepower than the Porsche RS” stated Saleen. If you opt for the “track version” you’ll also receive an upgraded radiator, a four-point roll cage, four-point harness, and a rear seat delete to allow you to get around the track faster.

In terms of cosmetics, the car features cues to the historic racecar paint scheme. White wheels, in addition to yellow, black, and white graphics wrap the car. “I heard comments that we had captured the look and feel of the championship cars” stated Saleen. A point that I would have to agree with. Looking at the vehicle, you can really see the racing heritage of Saleen Automotive and the cues to the Championship car while still giving you modern performance and comforts.

In terms of price, the Commemorative edition starts at a modest $87,000 (see what they did there?); however, getting one may be difficult as only 30 will be produced. As of yet though, 10 are still remaining but individuals hoping to buy had best act fast.
